The program of postgraduate specialization studies in the field of “Diseases of non-domesticated animals” (specialization No. 10) will be carried out during 258 hours of lectures, exercises, seminars and workshops (4 semesters).
The program includes:
– practical classes in zoos, non-domestic animal farms, European bison breeding centers, workshops in the field of surgery, treatment and imaging diagnostics of exotic animals
The topics of the classes will include the following issues:
clinical diagnostics (including imaging diagnostics, gender recognition methods), pathomorphological, laboratory diagnostics and treatment / combating internal diseases (including metabolic and genetic disorders), infectious (including emerging diseases), invasive and anthropozoonosis of fish and reptiles and amphibians, birds, rodents, carnivores, equines, elephants, ruminants (including bison, free-living and farmed deer), primates
surgical procedures relating to the aforesaid animal species
aspects of hygienic animal nutrition
monitoring and disease prevention of game animals as well as sanitary and veterinary assessment of their carcasses and organs
pharmacodynamics of immobilization agents and practical application of equipment for their remote administration
legal issues related to trade in non-domesticated animals (CITES), welfare, pharmaceutical law and medical and veterinary expertise in diseases of non-domesticated animals
functions of zoos and national parks and the role of a veterinarian in the protection of endangered species
Completion of studies allows you to apply for a specialization examination in order to obtain the title of a specialist.
The studies end with an exam, after passing which students receive a diploma of postgraduate studies from SGGW in Warsaw. Completion of the discussed postgraduate studies enables graduates to take the state examination in the field of “Diseases of non-domesticated animals”. A successfully passed exam is a prerequisite for obtaining the title of specialist.
